Arrived back at home from Nepal safe and sound Monday-Nepal is a beautiful country and the people are amazing, unfortunately the infrastructure is in a state of collapse- 6 hours of electricity per day with no set time as to when the power is on or off, daily life is hard- 80% of the population live on less than a dollar a day- The Maoist government coupled with the negative effects of global warming [no rain for months]are facing a massive challenge to get the country running on an even keel, tensions are high and there is a large police, national army/ maoist army presence in the streets, rebel factions are constantly kidnapping, shooting and looting in the Terai regions. Throw in an outbreak of bird flu on the India/Nepalese borders... plus the recent murder of a number of journalists.... and the fear that Tibeten refugees may be in for a very very hard time soon..... Yet somehow the people seem to cope.Back to Home PageSaddhu Pokhara.Early morning at PashupatinathBillie with street kids...Street kids 'home'....HarvestingOutside Government buildingUntitledSaddhu smoking his peace pipe...
