Capturing Saints: A Briton in Pashupati
A foreigner (white guest) can be noticed in the periphery of Mahayogi Guru Gorakshyanath temple in Pashupati Mrigasthali area for a few weeks. Busy in capturing saints in his camera is a 48-year-old professional photographer from Cardiff (Wales, The United Kingdom), John Warburton.
For five years, John has been visiting Kathmandu during Mahashivaratri to photograph saints. He is very good in handricraft, sculpture, travel, wedding ceremony and religious activity photography.Impressed by the amicable and suave behavior of sadhus in Pashupati area and their act of not harassing by asking for money, John decided to stay with them till Mahashivaratri. He had been staying with the sadhus which has helped John capture every activities of sadhus in Pashupati from dawn to dusk.“This is my personal project. I have already captured around five hundred snaps during Mahashivaratri festival” says John adding that he plans to continue this project for two more years. He plans to organize an exhibition of rare and interesting photographs from his collection. John, born in Manchester, a North Western city in Britain.
